The first step in measuring your child for a tutu skirt is to determine the length of the skirt you want. This can be done by measuring the desired length from the waist to the desired point on the leg, such as mid-thigh or below the knee.
Next, measure your child's waist at the narrowest point, typically just above the belly button. Make sure to hold the measuring tape snugly but not too tight, and write down the measurement.
Once you have both measurements, you can use them to determine how much tulle you will need for your skirt. To do this, multiply the desired skirt length by 2 and add a few inches for the waistband. Then, divide this number by the width of your tulle strips to determine how many strips you will need.
For example, if you want a tutu skirt that is 12 inches long and your child's waist measures 20 inches, you would need to cut approximately 16 strips of tulle that are 24 inches long (12 x 2 + 4 = 28; 28 ÷ 1.5 = 18.7, rounded up to 19 strips).
Once you have all of your tulle strips cut, it's time to assemble the skirt. Follow the instructions outlined previously in step 5, looping each strip through the waistband and knotting it in place until the entire waistband is covered. Then, trim the tulle to the desired length and fluff it out to create a full, voluminous skirt.
Remember to always supervise your child when they are wearing a tutu skirt, as the tulle can be delicate and easily damaged if pulled or snagged. With these simple steps, you'll be able to make a beautiful tutu skirt that your child will love to wear for any occasion.
